Thought for the day

(The thought for the day is based on the Mass readings for the day)

“I do not accept human testimony, but I say this so that you may be saved. . . I do not accept human praise; . . . ” John 5:34, 41

Jesus didn’t need people telling whether he was doing a good job or not. His goal wasn’t to do a “good job.” His goal was to do the will of the Father. He knew the pitfalls of human praise. Everyone like to hear that they are doing a good job. Human nature. The trap is when the “people pleasing” sneaks in and we tell people what we think they want to hear whether it helps them or not. Or we tell people nice things because it makes us feel better.
